The sounds ring in my ears —
Nails pounding,
Crowds shouting.
Jesus breathing hard and labored.
The Messiah sacrificed —
Swaddling clothes now replaced
With blood-drenched garments.
God suffering for you and for me.
Love hangs bleeding
So our hearts can beat with Hope.
This is Easter . . .
Overwhelming agony
Mingled with everlasting peace.
His eyes piercing my soul;
Seeing deep into all I am
And all I am not.
In the midst of the death
Comes grace spilling out
And salvation splattering quietly
Down a splintered wood cross
This is Love – –
The eternal sacrifice.
Jesus born to die.
Our resurrection promise.
. . . This is Easter.
