There’s manna raining down, and I’m afraid we’re missing it.
In the midst of our hurried lives and busy fall schedules, God is showering us with Himself while we rush from one task to the next, safely nestled under our umbrella of distraction.
Daily, we are gifted with manna from the Almighty, but not in the form of food, as He did for the Israelites. Instead, He showers us with unstoppable grace, unwavering love, and unending blessings.
He drenches us with the sacred, and we are dripping grace in ways we often don’t notice.
We are not very different from the children of Israel. God took them from captivity and chose them as His people, but in the midst of the blessing, they whined and complained. They thought they would starve in the wilderness, but God had a plan to provide.
In Exodus 16:13-15 (NKVJ), we read about the manna God so graciously gave them:
“. . . and in the morning the dew lay all around the camp. And when the layer of dew lifted, there, on the surface of the wilderness, was a small round substance, as fine as frost on the ground . . . This is the bread which the Lord has given you to eat.”
Some of the people only gathered a little bit of manna, while others gathered a lot. But when they sat down to eat each day, it was always just the exact amount they needed.
God does the same for you and me. His mercy and love for us are new every morning! He shows up even when we forget He’s there, and He blesses us in the midst of our ordinary lives, always providing exactly what we need.
“Through the Lord’s mercies, we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning . . .” (Lamentations 3:22-23b, NKVJ)
God is soaking us with Himself. But we are distracted and don’t always see the manna He provides.
Oftentimes, our souls are aching to be filled while we are actually walking right on top of His precious offering. We trample the manna beneath our feet, because we don’t open our eyes and hearts wide enough to see all of His blessings.
We hold our breath and hope for something better tomorrow, but in reality, He’s already laid out amazing gifts today.
How do we see it? How do we really find God in the midst of our busy lives, especially this time of year, when the calendar is so full? There are school events, fall sports, church activities, and the beginning of the holiday season.
So how do we focus on the moment and open wide our eyes to see Him?
I believe it’s always in the letting go.
The children of Israel had to let go of how they thought God “should” provide. They had to trust and step into the mystery of a God who rained down food every day, landing it softly on the ground for them to be filled.
“He rained down manna for the people to eat, he gave them the grain of heaven.” (Psalm 78:24, NIV)
In this busy season, may we all relinquish our preconceived ideas of how we think God “should” act. Instead, may we look close at how He shows up every day in ways we might not expect.
Until we let go of all the things we’ve so tightly grasped and stop being consumed by our calendars, we will continue to miss His miracles. We will continue to trample the manna beneath our feet.
God is raining down manna into our lives. May we breathe in His blessings and praise Him for the grace He provides each and every day.
In His Grace,
Sherri
